Koln Cathedral

Good Morning All!!!

So we went to Koln again and YAY we didn't get lost!! When we went to Koln last time we didn't get to walk around all that much because it took so long to get there. This time was so much better!!! Koln is know for many things one main thing it is known for is their Gothic style Cathedral. We saw it from a far last time and said we would come back to see it. From a far it was cool looking but WOW it wasn't just cool it was breath taking. I have never seen something that amazing before. There are no words to describe how incredible the architecture is and  the fact it was built in the 14th century. The history of the place, the fact it has lasted two world wars even being bombed and it still stands as magnificent as it is unbelievable. We bought tickets to see the treasury and to walk up the tower. We couldn't take pictures of the treasury but it was amazing. After seeing all those things we walked around the cathedral to the entrance to the tower. There is no lift to the tower only stairs. In the pictures (the link is below) there is a picture of me on a spiral staircase THIS is the only stair case up and down. As you are climbing the narrow stairs you are passing people coming down. Since I am claustrophobic this was hard for me. I don't even like elevators. But I sucked it up and climbed. This is a tall tower not one of the small ones it has 533 stairs to the top and there isn't much ventilation so it was HOT, not the best smelling (some people we have noticed don't like to wear deodorant), and cramped. I have to say that all those stairs were worth the stunning view we got to see and seeing it together.

After seeing the cathedral we had lunch on the stairs out front then did some exploring. We walked around the square, streets, saw the train station right there and then went back to the car to head the aquarium store for more fishies.

We lost two fish out of the school of fish which we have named the "goonies" so we replaced them. We bought a goby who is white with yellow spots and he cleans the sand on the bottom. His name is Gordon. We also bought a blenny who is named Paul because he looks like a little alien. He has eyes that move like a lizard he is brown, tan and cream he also had eye lashes (too cute). He is hard to find in the tank because he blends in very well. We are happy that our tank is coming along so well. Count so far 6 "goonies', Fred, Paul, and Gordon. Oh and also we bought two corals.

Another great weekend! I'm excited to start planning next weekend!

Love you all!!
Heather

The last two weekends...

Ok, so I am bad at writing in here. It's not like I don't have the time because I REALLY do. Oh well here's what happen over the last two weekends. It's a LONG post so happy reading....

Last weekend (May 21 and 22) we went to Trier. It's a cute village that had beautiful churches, beautiful roads and it has a building that houses ruins of a Roman Bath house. If you saw the pictures on shutterfly then you might not know what the pictures were of and I am sorry for that. Shutterfly won't let me write anything about the pictures. Now if you have Facebook then you got a description with each picture. We also got our first pet that day it was a yellow fish named Fred. He is really spastic. So he is hard to take a picture of.

This last weekend (May 28, 29 and 30) well lets start on Saturday. Saturday we went on a road trip to Koln. Koln has a really big Aquarium store that Will needed to go to for our tank. So we set off. Let me tell you the freeways here are nothing like back home or anywhere I have ever driven. When there's an off ramp there isn't always an on ramp on the other side. Or even 20 miles later is there an on ramp on the other side. So don't get off the freeway unless you know for sure that's your exit! We got lost for about 3 hours. Frustrating but nothing we could do about it. We did however take an exit and found an Ikea which was a place we needed to go. So we figured since we were there we might as well get what we needed. We bought a TON of stuff for our house. We bought a kitchen table, two table chairs, a coffee table, and end table, a dresser for Will and two night stand. Wow we spent a lot but we needed all the things we bought. So after loading the car FULL of all of the boxes we were off in search for Koln again. It was now 2pm and we didn't get to the aquarium store til almost 4. Thankfully it didn't close until 6. We bought some snails, hermit crabs, and 6 little blue fishies that swim together like a school of fish. I'm not going to name all of them because they all look alike but I need a name for the 'school' of them. We bought the hermits and snails to help clean the tank.

Sunday- We had a PJ day! That was really nice. We spent the day building all the furniture and placing them in the correct rooms. It is nice to have the bedroom almost finished. All we really need is a bed frame. And the living room all we need are 2 couches and some rugs. We also snuggled on the couch and watched movies all day too!!

Monday- Being here we celebrate German holiday's and American ones. Therefore Will had Monday off. We decided to go see a castle in Koblenz. But of course the roads getting there couldn't be easy. We had to take a detour through a bunch of little towns. While driving between towns on a beautiful windy road through a forest and saw a castle up upon a mountain top. We knew that wasn't the one we were looking for but hey cool we found one on our own. But when we hiked up a little hill it was closed. We walked around the outside took a few pictures and headed back to find the Eltz Castle. As we were driving into another town we  saw a building that could look like a castle from a far. Yet again, not our castle but it was a beautiful church. Again we took some pictures and we on the road again. Now still on the detour we start seeing signs for the Eltz Castle the one we were looking for. WOW, was this place amazing! This castle is still lived in by the family and has been for 33 generations. That's a lot of generations. We walked the grounds and paid for a tour in english (thankfully). We couldn't take pictures inside the the rooms we toured but what a sight to see. Things were from the 1400's and on. The details of the paintings, walls, carvings and so much more was beautiful to see. The castle also was having some restoration being done. With big storms and a large fire in 1920 there are cracks that are threatening the castle's structure in certain places. So they are fixing it. We got some amazing shots. All on Facebook and Shutterfly.

All in all it was a great weekend. We were going to go to Paris but with Will in his ALS classes he wasn't able to get his international driver license. He has a German one but in order to drive in other countries he needs an international one. So another time!

I heard the weather in California has been crazy with rain storms and tornadoes. Crazy! It was over cast/ cloudy with sunshine for the last two weeks here with rain for about an hour on a few days. But this weekend was perfect. It was sunny with little white fluffy clouds on Saturday. Sunday was sunny and Monday was sunny and 75 degrees. I couldn't have picked a better weekend. NOW, Tuesday it is pouring down rain and has been since this morning so I guess it's our turn for the rain!

Hope everyone is good because we are great here! Love you all and I'll try to be better about writing in here!

Love,
Heather

Week one!!!

Life in Germany week one:

So I had a long Friday and Saturday getting here. Flight from San Fran to Philly to Frankfurt! 14.5 hours in a chair in the air talk about tiring. I got in to Germany had no problems getting through customs even though my passport had long blond hair and I now have brown shorter hair but I just smiled and away I went. My bags took FOREVER to get though but I got a cart and was on my way to see Will. I felt like a kid getting to go to Disneyland and for you who know me well you know how much I LOVE that place. Well I didn't see Will right away so I walked around but couldn't find him. So like a little kid is told I 'hugged a tree' for being lost. LOL Well it wasn't a tree more like the wall in an open place. Within a few minutes he came from out of no where he wrapped his arms around me and we were reunited again. We have been apart since February and it was so nice to be back where I belong!! With him!

Our house is about 2 hours away from the airport so we had a little drive ahead of us. But we didn't go straight home we went to Ikea to look at furniture for the house. He hadn't bought anything except our bed because he wanted us to pick it out together. Aww, cute I know! He's probably got to be upset that I wrote that! hehe We looked around and got an idea of what we both like but the car was full of my luggage so we are going back today (Friday the 20th).

We then came home! What a beautiful house he picked out! It was bigger than I expected and the rooms were laid out different than what I thought from the pictures he took. But not in a bad way. It's really nice! The house it two stories with a finished basement. The main floor is all tile, the upstairs is hard wood not sure if its real wood but it looks it and the basement is painted floors. The patio is bigger too which is nice. It's just gray brick but just wait til we get our plants out there and some patio furniture!!! It's going to be so nice.

So the week has been pretty uneventful I have to say that I don't do bored well at all!!!! I don't know how people stay home everyday. If we had kids then it could make sense but since we don't I have not a whole lot to do. I've cleaned the house, organized things, unpacked, done laundry and that was all by day 2!!! But it's nice every night when Will gets home from work/classes right now we go for walks down these trails through the fields and woods near our place. I will have pictures up soon.

So all in all it has been a great week. I'm with the man I love, in a beautiful home, and in a beautiful country we can't wait to explore! Which we are doing this weekend!!

Love you all and I'll try to 'blog' when new stuff happens!
